What is optimal density in Hair transplant

There are many patient who often call us and do inquiry that what is maximum density we can provide them. Or in other words what is maximum density which is successful

I will urge you to read following article on our website

IS HIGH DENSITY HAIR TRANSPLANT IN INDIA WITH DENSITY OF 60 – 80 OR 100 GRAFTS PER SQ CM IS POSSIBLE?

After you read this article it will become clear that what you can look at and why very high densities produce more damage to recipient area and may result in skin wound formation and more chances of graft failure.

So now you are aware of concept that we need around 50 % density of normal hair to look normal in long hair . If you want shorter hair styles you may need more density.

Hair density

Your normal density is around 80 – 120 grafts per sq. cm .  In hairline area you can go for density of 50  – 60 grafts per sq. cm but if area is more than 30 sq. cm then it better to go with density of 35 – 40 grafts per sq cm after creation of hairline . If there is restricted donor area availability even 25 – 30 grafts in this area may be enough if you are willing to increase hair length to create your hair style . The issues can be there if transplanted hair does not attain normal thickness so we may need to increase density but putting few more grafts after we get final result of hair transplant.

Now second question which patients ask

Q. If I am not happy later with my hair transplant density – can I improve the hair density in same area by hair transplant. Is there any risk to transplanted hair if we try to do hair transplant in same area again ?

A. When the healing and growth of transplant hair is complete then we can do another hair transplant by inserting hair in between the preciously transplanted hair to increase the hair density. There is risk of shock loss of previously transplanted hair but generally they recover within 5 – 6 months .
